Cinemagraphs: Making your business stand out

Find out how cinemagraphs can help your business stand out from the crowd.

Like the idea of ‘living’ images that capture movement and tell a story? And no, we’re not talking about GIFS.. or those moving photos in Harry Potter (Although, how awesome were they?!). We’re talking about something even better; cinemagraphs.

The word ‘cinemagraph’ breaks it down for you. Its part cinema - a moving image, and part photograph - a static image. Part of the image moves in a subtle, seamless loop while the rest of the image remains still.

Cinemagraphs were all the rage in 2017, and its guaranteed to be a continuing trend this year too. The whole idea of merging static and live movements is almost disruptive - and that’s what catches the viewers eye and attention.

There’s a huge hype for cinemagraphs, especially on social media, which is why big brands are starting to include them in their social campaigns.

Take a look at some of our favourites:

1. Netflix - Stranger Things

2. Puma - The Weekend Colab

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty, why use cinemagraphs for your business?

There are a number of reasons:

1. Higher engagement rates

Cinemagraphs are eye-catching pieces of content that are known to get higher engagement than a static photo. In Flixl’s Microsoft Case Study about Microsoft’s advertising campaign that featured cinemagraphs, they noticed a 110% increase in engagement on Twitter, and 85% increase on Facebook. The numbers don’t lie.

2. They have the ability to tell your story

Cinemagraphs essentially highlight specific moments, and isolate those special movements in a continuous loop. How great is that for marketing? Put the focus on the product, brand, or experience that you’re selling and convey a message. Tell a story. Make your audience think.

3. Big brands are all about Cinemagraphs

Netflix, Puma, Coca-Cola, Disney, Prada & IKEA are just some of the brands now using cinemagraphs in their marketing campaigns. More and more brands are getting in on the action, so get in on it too to ensure you don’t get left behind!

4. They look pretty damn awesome

Can’t forget to mention that cinemagraphs are just simply beautiful pieces of content. If you create them well, they add to your brand’s look and feel, and make your business stand out from the crowd.
